The Staplecross-based talent carded a sparkling seven-under-par 65 today (Wednesday) to sit alongside Spanish player Jaime Camargo at the top of the leaderboard in the 2013 Sardegna IS Molas Open.

Evans continued the form which earned him a runner-up finish in the European Tour Qualifying School first stage section D event at Golf d’Hardelot in northern France last week as he eagled the par five first hole.

A birdie at the fourth was offset by a bogey at the fifth, but another birdie at the eighth meant Evans reached the turn in a three-under 32. The 26-year-old maintained his progress with four birdies in five holes from the 12th to complete an excellent morning’s work.

Camargo also eagled the opening hole before making four birdies in a row from the 12th and another at the last. The pair are a shot clear of Italian golfer Andrea Bolognesi and English talent Jason Palmer, who leads the season-long order of merit.

Evans lies seventh on the order of merit and is hoping for a strong finish in Sardinia this week to set him up nicely for the season-ending Masters 13 tournament next week. He will begin his second round in the 54-hole event from the 10th tee tomorrow afternoon.
