Evans, whose previous best result was tied ninth at Trophee Hassan II in Morocco during March, completed the 72-hole event in an 11-under-par total of 273 - four shots behind winner Lee Slattery.

The 28-year-old, whose Official World Golf Ranking is up to 365, started strongly with a four-under-par 67 last Thursday which contained six birdies and two bogeys.

He maintained the momentum with a three-under-par 68 on Friday featuring six more birdies and three dropped shots.

Evans was in the penultimate group for the third round on Saturday and lost ground slightly with a level par 71, parring all of the first 16 holes before finishing with a bogey and a birdie.

In the fourth round, an eagle at the par five third got him moving in the right direction and although Evans bogeyed the eighth, three birdies in four holes from the 11th took him round in 67.

Evans, of Rye and Sedlescombe golf clubs, has moved up to 137th on the season-long Race to Dubai standings ahead of the KLM Open in Holland, which will get under way tomorrow (Thursday). The top 110 at the end of the season will qualify for a ‘European Tour card’ in category 10 for next season.
