The 33-year-old missed the halfway cut by a solitary shot, despite a superb finish to his second round on Thursday.

Evans recorded four birdies and a bogey in his final five holes to sign for a two-under-par 69, leaving him level par overall and tied for 71st place.

He also birdied the seventh and 10th in a gallant fightback following three bogeys in the first six holes.

The previous day, Evans carded a two-over-par first-round 73 in which he recovered from two early bogeys with two birdies only to bogey the last two holes.

The British Masters kicked-off a new six-week ‘UK Swing’ in a reshaped season as the European Tour gets up and running again following its coronavirus-enforced suspension.

The tournaments are being held without spectators present and amid strict protocols to combat the threat of Covid-19.

Since turning professional in 2007, Evans has featured on the European Tour, second-tier European Challenge Tour and had a successful season on the Alps Tour in 2013.

His highest finish on the European Tour was tied third at the 2017 Made in Denmark event.
