The Staplecross-based talent is one shot clear of the field in the 54-hole Sardegna IS Molas Open after two splendid rounds on the Italian island of Sardinia.

Evans had a share of top spot after a seven-under-par first round 65 yesterday (Wednesday), but was among the later starters in round two today, which allowed Spanish player Jaime Camargo and order of the merit leader Jason Palmer to post a target at 12-under.

Starting from the 10th tee, Evans got off to a bad start with a bogey at the par four 11th but gained six shots during a stunning five-hole run either side of the turn to move into a share of the lead.

The 26-year-old reeled off four consecutive birdies from the 15th before eagling the par five first hole for the second day on the bounce. Another birdie on the par four eighth moved him a shot clear at the head of affairs following a round of 66.

Evans, who lies seventh on the season-long order of merit with one more event remaining after this one, will be targeting another low round tomorrow as he seeks to secure his maiden professional victory.
