George wins 23rd world title

The Northiam-based hotshot emerged triumphant from a high quality field at the EJ Churchill Shooting Ground on the West Wycombe Estate.

Competitors were treated to 200 targets across some of England’s finest countryside with Digweed going into the Super Six Final as leader after hitting 96 out of 100 on each of the two days.

Against the stunning backdrop of Sir Edward Dashwood’s West Wycombe House, Digweed got the better of the likes of former Olympic gold medallist Richard Faulds who finished third.

Runner-up was USA’s Bill Maguire, while joining him in the top six were the likes of Paul Simpson, Nick Hendrick and Nigel Hart. Amazingly, this was Digweed’s 23rd world championship over the course of a quite astonishing career.

He said: “I’ve now won world titles in my 20s, 30s, 40s and 50s and for me that’s a personal milestone which I’m really pleased and proud to have achieved!

“Of all the Championships that I’ve won this would rate right up there, purely and simply because it’s in England, in a beautiful setting with the right atmosphere and I just think the event has run fantastically well.”

Digweed has also won 18 European Championships, 15 World Cups, eight European Cups, and 10 British & English Championships.
