The Westies will be in action at the Withdean Stadium tomorrow (Saturday) when they face AFC Varndeanians in Macron Store Southern Combination Football League Division Two.

The venue has been under maintenance work during the summer, and the pitch and facility are expected to be in great shape for its first county league game in 18 years.

Withdean Stadium - which has been primarily used for athletics - was Brighton’s home ground from 1999 to 2011 before the club moved to the all-new American Express Community Stadium.

Westfield manager Jack Stapley said: “I would imagine there will be quite a lot of interest and hopefully there should be a good crowd there watching.”

The match promises to be a tough one for Westfield because fourth-placed Varndeanians are the only remaining unbeaten side in the division and boast the best defensive record having conceded just three goals in seven matches.

Westfield are 10th in the table having lost four and drawn one of their last five matches in all competitions, and Stapley will be demanding a big improvement following the 6-1 drubbing at Clymping last weekend.

Westfield should at least be close to full strength with several players expected to return having played for Hastings United under-21s last weekend.
