Goals from Callum Smith, Asher Grindle and Liam Ward set up a fourth round trip to league rivals Bosham on Saturday December 10.

“It was a good performance,” said Westfield manager Jack Stapley. "We had players missing, but that's what we've got a squad for and we got the job done. Everything that we did badly on Saturday (when Westfield lost 4-0 away to Sidlesham in the league) we did well last night."

Westfield drew first blood in the ninth minute. Grindle’s corner wasn’t cleared and Smith smashed the ball home from eight yards for his 20th goal of the season.

Shoreham levelled three minutes later when a routine-looking 20-yard shot bobbled and deceived Harry Stapley in the Westfield goal.

Westfield deservedly went ahead again in the 42nd minute. Smith whipped in a cross from the right and although Zak Hurst was denied by the goalkeeper, Grindled tapped home the rebound.

This time there was no way back for Shoreham, particularly after Westfield added a third in the 55th minute. Ward won a tackle in midfield and sold a Shoreham defender a dummy before hitting a 25-yard shot which caught the wind and floated in, seemingly in slow motion.

Grindle hit the crossbar and Smith failed to convert a couple of one-on-one opportunities as Westfield could have won by more. They also had a very confident penalty appeal turned down.

Westfield: H. Stapley; Winter, Dadswell, Dicken, Durrant; Ward, Adams, Barrett; Hurst (Cochrane), Grindle, Smith (J. Stapley).

Westfield will return to Macron Store Southern Combination League Division Two action at home to second-bottom Alfold on Saturday, kick-off 2pm.

Stapley added: "It's another home game that we should be looking to win to be honest. We put nine past them at their place and we're strong at home. It's a long journey for them and it's a good opportunity to get back on track."
