Weather works to Rye’s advantage

The bitterly cold weather could work to Rye United’s advantage in the Sussex County Football League title race.

All of last weekend’s Division One games were wiped out by frozen pitches and it’s pretty much the same story this weekend.

Unlike last season when they were playing catch-up, this time table-topping Rye are the ones with points on the board and no worries regarding fixture backlogs.

Three Bridges appear to be Rye’s main rivals for the title, but they still have 15 league matches remaining compared to Rye’s nine and the gap between the two is 14 points.

Bridges and Rye will also face each other in the semi-finals of the John O’Hara League Cup and Sussex RUR Charity Cup during what promises to be an exciting last two-and-a-half months of the campaign.
