The Pirates came from behind to beat Westfield 2-1 in the Hastings & District FA Senior Cup final at The Polegrove last Friday night.

Munday said: “There were only the two teams in it (the competition) this year, but for us it’s no different than it was before. You still want to win it, it’s still a game of football, it’s still a local one and it’s a bit of silverware. We deserved something this season.”

Andy Garman marked his return to the side with a trademark solo goal to win the game after George Aston had got Bexhill back on level terms with a first half free kick.

“Garmo’s been lost for the last six weeks, we’ve not seen him about at all,” continued Munday. “For 45 minutes he couldn’t find his feet, and then he’s stepped up, put it on his left foot and ‘wanded it’ into the top corner. I can’t believe it, but that’s Garmo all over - he’s either rubbish or amazing.”

Munday revealed his players drew positions and numbers out of a hat for the final.

He said: “We drew the team out of a hat on (Easter) Monday after our disappointing loss to Little Common. We didn’t want to take the mick, but we wanted to enjoy the game today.

“We put all the players in a hat, and drew out positions and numbers. That’s how we started the game and to be honest we were quite lucky because how the squad turned out was quite a strong XI I thought.

“But players playing out of position told the story of the first 45 minutes. We were a little bit headless chickens running around so we changed it back to a system that the players are more used to and I think that showed in the second half.

“The second half display I was pleased with. They (the players) played well and got their just rewards.”

Bexhill will finish sixth in Macron Store Sussex County Football League Division Two - one place and four points above neighbours Little Common.
