Marc Munday felt that Bexhill United Football Club’s good work over the previous few games was undone by the defeat to Selsey.

The Pirates were beaten 4-2 in their latest Macron Store Southern Combination Football League Division One fixture after conceding twice in the first seven minutes at The Polegrove on Saturday.

Bexhill manager Munday said: “It seems like all the hard work we’ve put in Tuesday night (when Bexhill beat Ringmer 4-1) and previously against Storrington (who Bexhill defeated 2-1) has been kind of unravelled there.

“We’ve gone one step forward and two steps back again. We worked really hard to get ourselves back in contention and start picking up points, and we’ve literally thrown it away after about 10 minutes.

“We were terrible at the start of the game and found ourselves 2-0 down in no time so we had a mountain to climb straight away. That said, even when we went 2-0 down, I always felt we would’ve been good enough to go on and beat them, but it didn’t prove to be the case in the end.

“When we got back to 3-2 I really felt there was only going to be one team to go on and win the game. We’ve had one disallowed probably at a crucial time which Andy (Atkin) headed in and I think that kind of told the story in the end.

“A bit of bad luck there with that one being disallowed didn’t give us the push to go on and win the game. We had a few more chances and goalmouth scrambles which they just managed to keep out the back of the net, and it’s kind of killed us.”
