Utd sign Albion goalkeeper East

Hastings United have solved their latest goalkeeping predicament by signing a young Brighton & Hove Albion stopper.

The U’s have brought in Daniel East on a month’s loan and the 20-year-old is poised to go straight into the side for the trip to Concord Rangers tomorrow (Saturday).

United player-manager Sean Ray said: “We’re hoping he (East) is going to come in and do a job. I’ve not known about him; we were literally phoning up contacts that we know. Brighton have been good and let us have him.”

Regular goalkeeper Matt Armstrong-Ford hasn’t played since hobbling through the FA Cup second round replay against Harrogate Town on Thursday December 13

with a knee injury sustained in the original meeting between the clubs 12 days previously. Ray reckons the tall stopper is still 3-4 weeks away from a possible return.

The U’s signed Liam O’Brien on a 28-day loan from Barnet in time for the FA Cup third round tie away to Middlesbrough on January 5. His stint at the club was due to end this week, but United were attempting to extend his stay at the back end of last week.

O’Brien then sustained a groin injury during the first half of last weekend’s 3-0 defeat away to Wealdstone and after seeing a specialist on Wednesday, discovered that he will be sidelined for around two months.

The club website is also reporting that United have agreed a deal to sign Tonbridge Angels forward Mikel Suarez, as well as allowing Rory Murphy and Reece Beckles-Richards to return to Aldershot Town, and releasing Adrian Stone.

Danny Ellis hurt himself in the warm-up prior to the Wealdstone game, but was due to be assessed last night with the hope of being fit for tomorrow. Bailo Camara can’t play tomorrow because of work, although Ray himself will return having completed his two-match ban.
