U’s miss out on League Cup final

Hastings United’s hopes of Ryman League Cup glory are over.

The U’s lost 3-0 away to fellow Premier Division outfit Concord Rangers in the semi-finals tonight (Tuesday), just their third defeat in 17 cup matches this season.

Concord opened the scoring after 20 minutes courtesy of a Danny Glozier penalty and that was how things remained at the break after United goalkeeper Daniel East made a good save to deny Tony Stokes.

United conceded right at the start of the second half in the league fixture between the clubs earlier this month and the same thing happened again tonight as Danny Spendlove converted a left wing cross from close range within 30 seconds of the restart.

Spendlove then blazed over, while at the other end, Bailo Camara fired too high on the turn after Sean Ray headed Lee Carey’s free kick across goal. Zac Attwood then curled a free kick just the wrong side of the post as the fog descended and temperature dropped still further.

Concord made sure of their place in the final with a 73rd minute third goal, Stokes getting the final touch to spare Jono Richardson an own goal. There was more bad news for United right at the end as player-manager Ray hobbled off in some pain.

United: East, Cox, Richardson, Carey, Ray, Judge, Crellin, Okojie, Freeman, Attwood, Camara. Subs: White, Elgar, Dixon.
