University sport: Chichester footballers' trophy run ends in Nottingham

They tweeted: “Despite losing 6-0 against Nottingham, the girls consistently worked hard and in spells created chances. The result did not go the girls’ way but they are happy to claim being one of the top eight teams in the competition. Valiant effort girls.”

The Chi women’s futsal team faced Brunel for a second week running in Premier South. It ended 7-7 last time out and a Chichester win would have secured a runners-up spot to Bath.

Chichester were on top at the break but Brunel staged a second half comeback to grab all three points.

Coach Carl Pennifold said, “Not the way we wanted to end the league but the girls finish four points higher than last season and they have come so far together as a squad. We now move on to the cup.”

The Chi men’s football sixes are in a relegation scrap with Surrey fours and St George’s ones after losing 5-2 to Sussex threes.

Chi’s women’s basketball remain top of the league following a 94-34 victory over Reading.

In netball the twos lost 56-32 to Portsmouth counterparts while the fours were beaten 36-17 at home to West London ones.

There were losses for both Chi men’s and women’s hockey first teams and Brighton defeated men’s tennis 10-2 at Virgin Active in Falmer.

Second-placed St Mary’s beat Chi women’s rugby 39-5 and the men’s volleyball team lost 3-1 away to table toppers Hertfordshire.

Sussex, who are unbeaten this season, scored five touchdowns in their 38-0 win over the university’s American football team the Spitfires.

Students on Chichester’s innovative esports degree were in action in various National Student Esports (NSE) and National University Esports League (NUEL) events organised for players who represent their universities across a number of esports titles.

Aaron Kelly made the semi finals of the NSE FIFA winter finals and got off to a good start in the FIFA 20 FUT spring championship with wins over players from Nottingham and Kent.

Team 2 lost to Leeds, University College London and University of West England in the NUEL League of Legends series and Cambridge beat Chichester’s Counter-Strike: Global Offensive team 16-12.
