The U’s won 2-0 away to Tooting & Mitcham United in their first Ryman Football League Division One South fixture since September 22 thanks to second half goals from Billy Medlock and Sam Cole.

Tyrell Richardson-Brown and Bright Temba were rewarded for their goalscoring performances in the midweek cup victory over Tonbridge Angels by retaining their places in the starting line-up, although United were again missing Sean Ray and Zac Attwood through injury, and the suspended Tom Vickers.

During a goalless first half, United goalkeeper Josh Pelling kept out Jamie Byatt’s close range effort and Mike Salako squandered a headed opportunity for Tooting, while Medlock shot narrowly over at the other end.

United started the second half well and drew first blood in the 57th minute when Medlock headed in Chris Cumming-Bart’s left wing cross from close range.

Pelling maintained the lead by pulling off a super stop to deny Byatt and then made another good save to tip over Leon Lalor-Dell’s shot from just outside the box.

Medlock had a couple of sights of goal at the other end before United made sure of the points with a 90th minute penalty. Jack Harris was fouled by Harry Knock and free-scoring midfielder Cole again made no mistake from the spot.
