United through in League Cup

Hastings United ended a six-match winless run on Tuesday night.

The U’s won 2-0 away to Sittingbourne in round two of the Ryman Football League Cup thanks to a goal in either half.

Kenny Pogue put Premier Division side United ahead just before the break and Aaron Parris made sure of victory with a last minute second goal on his senior debut.

Ryan Thomson hit the post for United in the first half immediately after Chamal Fenelon’s shot was blocked on the line, while Division One South outfit Sittingbourne struck the crossbar in the second period.

Elsewhere, a heavily stretched Sidley United suffered an eighth defeat in 11 matches with a 4-1 loss at Lingfield in Sussex County League Division One.

But Bexhill United extended their unbeaten run to four matches courtesy of a 1-1 draw at home to Eastbourne United AFC in a match which ended 10-a-side. Casey Ham equalised for a Bexhill team which had Matt Sellick sent-off.

Full reports on each of these matches will appear in Friday’s Observers.
