United return to league action

Hastings United will return to competitive action tonight (Tuesday).

Third-placed Lowestoft Town embark on a lengthy trek to The Pilot Field for United’s first Ryman Football League Premier Division fixture in 10 days.

But United player-manager Sean Ray doesn’t believe the 320-plus mile round trip from deepest Suffolk will make any difference.

“We went to Leiston in the cup in midweek and beat them, and Bury Town came down here in the cup in midweek and beat us so I don’t think it’s going to have any bearing whatsoever,” he said.

“They are one of the biggest spenders in the league and have one of the better budgets. They’ve got a lot of experience and it will be tough.

“But it’s up to us to make it difficult for them, especially in the first 10 minutes because we can’t allow them to dictate to us. When you play top sides you can’t give them any incentive early doors because they know how to hold onto a lead.”

United, who occupy the final safe spot of fifth-from-bottom, will again be without suspended duo Jamie Crellin and Jordan Woodley for a match which will kick-off at 7.45pm.
