United relishing Trophy trip

Hastings United turn their attention towards the FA Trophy today (Saturday).

Jason Hopkinson’s side faces a trip to Bedfont Town in first round qualifying of the non-league game’s premier knockout competition.

Bedfont - whose ground is situated right next to Heathrow Airport - are joint bottom in Division One Central of the Evo-Stik Southern League, although they did beat Romford 4-1 in the previous round.

“I’m really confident we’ll come back with a result if the lads have the same desire and application they have shown this season,” said Hopkinson.

Midfielder Jamie Crellin returns after a one-match suspension and Hopkinson admits the arrival of former Exeter City goalkeeper Matt Armstong-Ford has given him “a positive headache” over who to select between the posts.

He said: “It’s causing me a problem to be honest because I’m pleased with Lloyd (Anderson) but Matt has come in and done well.”

Armstrong-Ford made his Hastings debut in the midweek team that won 2-0 away to Sittingbourne in the Ryman League Cup, a performance that also saw Charlie Elgar impress at full-back and Aaron Parris grab his first goal for the club.
