United off the mark

Hastings United picked up their first points of the season with a 2-0 win at East Thurrock United on Tuesday night.

A Matt Hall penalty midway through the first half and an added time strike by Kenny Pogue got Hastings up and running in the Ryman Football League Premier Division.

Hastings manager Jason Hopkinson made four changes to the side beaten by Wingate & Finchley at the weekend and Hall put them ahead with a 23rd minute spot-kick awarded for a dubious foul on Pogue just inside the area.

Hall also had a hand in the second goal, finding Dan Bolwell in space in the home penalty area. Bolwell proceeded to deliver a low cross for Pogue to apply a simple finish.

Ben Billings had a couple of efforts saved and Hall shot narrowly wide, while at the other end, Lloyd Anderson also pulled off a pair of decent stops and East Thurrock missed two gilt-edged chances.

Hastings: Anderson, Manning, Bolwell, Crellin, Ray, Jirbandey, Hopkinson (Tate 85), Hall, Pogue, Walder (Foreman 69), Billings. Subs not used: McDonald, Rand.
