United to adopt positive approach

Hastings United player-boss Sean Ray is “going to be positive” when play-off hopefuls Bury Town roll into The Pilot Field today (Saturday).

The U’s are hoping to take another step towards securing their Ryman Premier status following a 2-0 win over Tooting & Mitcham United in midweek.

This result and Leatherhead’s 1-0 defeat away to Lewes means Hastings sit nine points clear of the drop zone. Leatherhead, who occupy the fourth and final relegation place, have also played an extra game and have only seven fixtures to make up the deficit.

“We’re going to be positive,” said Ray. “Bury are a good side, they proved that when they beat us in the (Ryman League) cup down here but we’re a good side and the belief is coming in the boys now. We’re a threat to most teams.”

Hastings’ attacking options have been boosted by the arrival of long-term transfer target Bailo Camara who dual registered from Eastbourne Borough. The striker enjoyed a lively debut against Tooting and set up the second goal for Zac Attwood.

“At last, it’s only taken about 12 weeks to get him,” Ray said. “He wants to come and play football and we want him here.”

Jordan Woodley has rejoined Rye United and played for their reserves on Tuesday night. “Jordan has gone back on dual registration with Rye for the short term. He needs games,” explained Ray.

“He needs to get his fitness levels up. He’s no good to us and it’s no good for him sitting on the bench and getting 20 minutes, he needs to go out and get 90 minutes.”
