Triple bill of football action tonight

The U’s will entertain Herne Bay in an all-important FA Cup second round qualifying replay, while Bexhill United and Little Common will also be in action.

United will be out to kill off Herne Bay at the second attempt having squandered a golden opportunity to triumph at the first time of asking on Saturday.

Garry Wilson’s side went ahead through a Sam Cole cracker in the 24th minute and Herne Bay had a player sent-off barely 60 seconds later. The Kent side rallied to earn a share of the spoils, though, courtesy of an 87th minute penalty.

At stake for the winners of the all-Ryman Football League Division One South affair is £4,500 from the FA’s prize fund and a third round qualifying tie at home to Poole Town on Saturday October 10.

United will again be without the suspended Jack Walder for a match which will kick-off at 7.45pm. United’s scheduled trip to East Grinstead Town in the league has been postponed to make way for the replay.

Elsewhere, Bexhill and Common will be in Sussex RUR Charity Cup second round action. Bexhill are at home to Langney Wanderers, while Common will face Eastbourne United AFC.

Bexhill and Langney both have 10 points from six Macron Store Southern Combination Football League Division One matches, although Bexhill haven’t won any of their last four in all competitions.

Bexhill boss Marc Munday will be demanding an improvement following Saturday’s 5-1 league defeat at home to Haywards Heath Town and although Jack Woodward is still suspended, he should have a large squad to select from.

Common will also be seeking to bounce back from a weekend league defeat when they face Eastbourne United in a tie which has been switched to the opposition’s ground as Common’s floodlight problem hasn’t yet been resolved.

Common have picked up 12 points from seven games in Division One, while Eastbourne - who will be playing their first match under new manager Tobi Hutchinson - have taken eight from seven in the Premier Division.

The ties involving Common and Bexhill will also kick-off at 7.45pm.
