Trio progress in league cup

Common’s 3-2 win away to Wick & Barnham United and Bexhill’s extra-time victory at home to Seaford Town by the same scoreline means the cross-town rivals will face each other in the quarter-finals at The Polegrove.

It was the second time in five days that Bexhill had won a game in which they had trailed 2-0. Beckham Pout and Kirk Ferguson put Seaford in charge at half time, but Jamie Salvidge and Peter Cooper levelled for Bexhill after the break, and Danny Leach won it near the end of extra-time.

While Bexhill did it the hard way, Common were in complete control of their game before allowing their opponents back into it. Adam Smith and Jared Lusted put Common two-up at half time against a Wick side which has already beaten them in the league.

Lewis Hole’s 11th goal of the season on the hour mark appeared to have put the tie to bed, but goals from Wick duo Dan Cox and Ash Harper meant that Common had to survive a nervy finish to book their place in the last eight.

Westfield’s improved form continued with a fine 3-1 triumph away to league leaders Steyning Town. It was the second successive weekend that Westfield had scored three goals on their travels and it set up a quarter-final away to Oakwood in the same half of the draw as Bexhill and Common.

Mike Booth, Jethro Warren and Aaron Parris gave Westfield a three-goal lead at half time before Steyning, who won away to Westfield in the league last month, grabbed a second half consolation. Full reports on each game will appear in Friday’s Observers.
