The Quarterboys were two-up at half time thanks to strikes by Olly Lockyer and Alex Sarkies. Matt Maclean added a third after the break before Dominic Clarke bagged a brace to complete the scoring.

Rye remain fourth in Sussex County Football League Division One - eight points behind leaders Peacehaven & Telscombe having played the same number of matches - and are now unbeaten in 13 under Marc Gall and Anthony Storey.

Sidley United’s run of six wins in eight Division One fixtures was ended by a 3-0 loss away to high-riding East Preston. Blues boss John Lambert didn’t think there was a great deal between the sides and felt that Sidley didn’t get the rub of the green.

Lambert’s charges were one-down at half time to a goal which some considered offside. Sidley felt there was a handball in the build-up to the second goal and that the third didn’t look like a free kick.

It was a good day for the area’s Sussex Division Two clubs with Bexhill United, Little Common and Westfield all winning. Common edged a seven-goal thriller away to fifth-placed Broadbridge Heath to move within a point of third-placed Eastbourne United AFC having played a game less.

Russell Eldridge’s side came from 1-0 and 2-1 down to take a 4-2 lead before Heath pulled one back to set up a tense finish. Dominic Cruttenden bagged a brace, including a screamer, and there was one each for Steve Morris and Lewis Hole.

Westfield have a real chance of finishing fifth in the same division after making it six wins from eight matches with a 1-0 success at home to Southwick. Westfield had Jethro Warren sent-off during the second half, but a cracker from Gordon Cuddington gave them the points.

Also in Division Two, Bexhill celebrated only their second win and first clean sheet since the turn of the year with a 1-0 success away to Steyning Town. Martyn Durrant’s first half goal gave the Pirates revenge for a 2-1 loss at home to the same opponents a week previously.

Full reports on each of these matches will appear in Friday’s Observers.
