Little Common Football Club’s second team scored 11 goals for the second successive weekend.
With players still recovering from being involved in a bizarre 11-8 win over Northiam 75 a fortnight ago, Common won 11-2 at home to Herstmonceux on Saturday.
Common were hoping for a more sedate affair against the team immediately above them in the Macron East Sussex Football League Division One table at kick-off, but it wasn’t to be.
After scoring four goals on his debut the previous weekend, the impressive Dan Tewkesbury rattled home two goals in the opening 10 minutes.
His new strike partnership with Dan Estherby proved relentless as Estherby took up the scoring mantle on the 20-minute mark, unleashing a 10-minute hat-trick, all rattled into the bottom corner from an angle.
The half time team talk delivered by Herstmonceux is probably still ringing in their players’ ears, but the second half continued in the same way.
Paddy Brown skipped through the Herstmonceux defence and slotted home from the acutest of angles, and Zack McEniry tapped in number seven before Tewkesbury completed his hat-trick.
Tewkesbury gifted the ball to sub Stuart Collier to tap in number nine. Herstmonceux pulled one back before Tewkesbury took Common’s tally into double figures, lobbing the Herstmonceux goalkeeper from a seemingly impossible angle.
A 90th minute penalty gave Herstmonceux a consolation before Andy McTear broke from midfield on the final whistle and fired into the roof of the net from distance to complete the scoring.
Common are now up to second in the table and they host unbeaten leaders Rye Town this coming Saturday. Kick-off at the Rec is 3pm.
