Taricco retires from playing duty

BRIGHTON assistant boss Mauricio Taricco has decided to hang up hit boots and concentrate on coaching.

The 38-year-old Argentinian, who this week celebrated signing a new five-year deal with the Albion, had come out of retirement to provide vital cover at full-back after originally calling it a day back in 2004.

Taricco, who started his career in his homeland at Argentinos Juniors, is perhaps best known to the wider footballing world for his successful stints at Tottenham Hotspurs and Ipswich Town for whom he made 158 and 189 appearances respectively.

His decision comes after he slotted in at right-back during the Albion’s 3v1 home defeat to arch rivals Crystal Palace last week – in which he only last an hour before being subbed off.

Crowd favourite Taricco made less than a dozen appearances in the stripes.

Utility player Romain Vincelot will now provide back up to current full-backs Marcos Painter and Inigo Calderon.
