Strike duo in Common’s sights

Little Common are seeking more firepower for the relegation run-in.

The Commoners have this week issued seven-day approaches for Sidley United striker Casey Ham and AFC Uckfield forward Drew Greenall.

Common player-manager Russell Eldridge said: “You’re never confident until people sign on the dotted line as such, but you’re always hopeful and if we can acquire them, they will be very good additions.”

Penalty specialist Ham was Common’s 16-goal leading scorer last season - his first at senior level - before moving to Bexhill United in the summer and then to Sidley in October.

Greenall - a target for Bexhill during the early part of the campaign - is a tall centre-forward with good feet who holds the ball up well. Eldridge has seen him play a couple of times this term.

“They’re people we’ve identified that will be more than useful in our run-in,” continued Eldridge. “Hopefully we can get them in before our next fixture and that will just give us a couple more attacking options.”

That next game won’t be until at least next weekend because Common - like cross-town rivals Bexhill and Sidley - are without a Sussex County Football League encounter this weekend.

Eldridge said that Common won’t be looking to arrange a friendly and will instead prepare for their return to action with a couple of good training sessions, although one or two players might have a run-out in the reserves.
