Stapley leads team for replay

The post-Jason Hopkinson era at Hastings United will get underway tonight (Tuesday).

Mark Stapley will take charge of the team with Dave Walters helping to oversee matters when United host Bedfont Trophy in an FA Trophy first round qualifying replay.

United and Hopkinson parted company after the 1-1 between the clubs in the original meeting on Saturday. Hopkinson had been United manager for 10 months.

The U’s, who are 18th in the Ryman League Premier Division, needed a last gasp equaliser from Zac Attwood to force a replay against a Bedfont side which lies second-bottom of the Evo-Stik Southern League Division One Central.

Kick-off at The Pilot Field is 7.45pm and the winners will travel to Maldon & Tiptree in second round qualifying on Saturday November 5.

Elsewhere tonight, plenty of local pride will be at stake as Little Common and Bexhill United go head-to-head at The Polegrove in a Hastings & District FA Senior Cup semi-final.

Bexhill, who are 10th in Sussex County League Division Two, expect to welcome back several players against a Common team which is second-bottom of the same division. Kick-off is 7.45pm.
