Olly Lockyer struck twice in Rye United's 8-0 demolition of Oakwood

The Quarterboys scored four goals during the first half-hour and four more in the third quarter of a one-sided Sussex RUR Charity Cup second round tie. Their reward is a trip to Loxwood in the last 16.

Evan Archibald gave Sussex County Football League Division One side Rye a ninth minute lead and Ryan Cooper doubled the advantage 11 minutes later. Rye captain Anthony Storey made it 3-0 in the 24th minute before Olly Lockyer added the fourth against Division Two team Oakwood.

Ethan Strevett weighed in with number five less than three minutes into the second half and Chris Gould bagged the sixth in the 55th minute. Gregg Berry became Rye’s seventh different scorer four minutes later before Lockyer claimed his second to complete the rout.

In the same competition, Division Two outfit Westfield gave Division One club Horsham YMCA a good run for their money before two late goals meant they succumbed to an entertaining 5-3 defeat.

Westfield fell behind in only the third minute, but equalised just a minute later through Matt Dadswell’s second goal in successive games. YM struck again in the 25th and 34th minutes to take a 3-1 lead only for Dominic Clarke to pull one back before the break and Aaron Parris to level 10 minutes after the restart.

It remained 3-3 until YM went back in front in the 84th minute and the hosts sealed their place in the next stage with a 90th minute penalty. See Friday’s Observers for full reports on both matches.
