Sids are I-flyers themselves at Ifield

Sidlesham faced a tricky trip to high-flying Ifield in division three of the Sussex League but came away with the points with an outstanding performance and a 4-0 win.

Early on, an Ifield forward had only Sids keeper Lee Arnell to beat but his shot was superbly saved.

The Sids took the game to Ifield and Dan Bassil hit an upright before Andy Hounsome struck a volley against the bar.

Ifield’s winger was causing problems but with a few adjustments at the back all his hard work came to nothing.

On 50 minutes Paul Barnes scored a fine header to give the Sids the lead.

Ifield were finding it hard to cope and when Kieran Hartley got into the penalty box he was brought down and a spot-kick was awarded. Gary Jones stepped up to convert it.

Sids’ great passing game paid off when Dan Bassil’s cross was met by Barnes, who headed his second.
