Second half double sinks Hastings

HASTINGS United’s Ryman Premier future remains in doubt after crashing to a 2-0 defeat away to Carshalton Athletic.

A second half double from Paul Vines did the damage between two teams just above the drop zone.

The U’s now remain only three points clear of the bottom four after Leatherhead won 2-0 against Aveley. The only good news for Hastings was Harrow Borough’s 4-3 defeat at home to Canvey Island.

Hastings got off to a useful start despite the bumpy playing surface with Nick Gonsalves and Lee Carey both going close to giving them an early lead.

The home side then began to create a series of great opportunities but failed to make any of them count as David Ray, Craig Tanner and Ola Sogbanmu were all guilty of glaring misses.

Hastings responded just before half time when Danny Ellis forced a decent save out of goalkeeper Nick Hamann.

Vines opened the scoring on 68 minutes when a Hamann free kick was flicked on and there was the Carshalton striker to bury his finish beyond Armstrong-Ford. He doubled his money 10 minutes later by netting from close range.
