Rye tackle 10 games in 22 days

The Quarterboys will be in action on Saturday, Tuesday and Thursday for the next three weeks during a frantic end to the season following all the postponements over the winter.

Joint manager Anthony Storey said: “We’ll just give it our best shot. We’ll take it one game at a time and we’ve got to keep pushing on. All the boys are absolutely loving it.”

The frantic schedule is reminiscent of two seasons ago when Rye finished second in Sussex County Football League Division One having reached the FA Vase quarter-finals.

Fellow joint boss Marc Gall said: “If we finish the season with a decent bit of credibility, that’s good enough for us. We’ve closed that gap up (to the sides just above them) and we want to take something from every game we play.”

Having picked up four points from their two fixtures over the Easter weekend, Rye are now unbeaten in seven under Gall and Storey. Although in seventh place, Rye are actually only eight points behind leaders Peacehaven & Telscombe with two games in hand.

Next up tomorrow (Saturday) is a visit from third-placed Pagham, who beat Peacehaven on Wednesday night. Rye pulled off a superb 1-0 win away to the Lions on Tuesday, last week, despite making the long trip west with just 12 players and both sides will doubtless be relishing the return match.

That will be followed by two more home games against second-placed Redhill on Tuesday and local rivals Sidley United on Thursday. In fact, Rye’s next seven matches are all due to be at home.
