Rye game is off

Rye United’s scheduled trip to Lingfield today (Saturday) has been postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

The Division One game is so far the only Sussex County Football League fixture to be called-off today after a week of fairly settled weather has enabled many playing surfaces to dry out.

It’s bad news for Rye because it means they still have 23 league games to fit in between now and the end of the season, and they’ve only played one league match since way back on December 1.

The pile-up is beginning to look more and more like two seasons ago when Rye had several weeks of playing Saturday, Tuesday and Thursday at the back end of the campaign.

All of today’s other senior fixtures involving local clubs are due to go ahead. For updates on Hastings United’s crucial Ryman League Premier Division clash at home to Thurrock, follow @SimonNewstead on Twitter.
