Rye clubhouse set to open

The new Rye United FC Clubhouse will be open for the game against Sidley United on Easter Monday.

Winchelsea-based building company Jim Soan & Sons Ltd began work last July and nine months later it is now considered ready for use.

Rye chairman Clive Taylor said: “It’s not going to be complete, but we’re going to open it anyway. The bar’s gone in, the toilet facilities are all done, it’s almost there.”

A number of people connected to the club have been working hard over the last few weeks to get the building up and running, and Taylor says it’s a big relief that they’re almost there.

The clubhouse will replace the Sidney Allnutt Pavilion which was destroyed in an arson attack in August 2010 and as one would expect, it’s a far more sophisticated facility.

Taylor went on: “It’s fantastic. We’ve tried to learn the lessons from other people’s dressing rooms and the dressing rooms are one of the best in the league.

“All the lights have got sensors in them so we’re saving energy and hopefully money as well, and although it looks like timber, the clubhouse itself is fireproof cladded.”

The changing rooms in the new facility probably won’t be open until next season, by which time the portable buildings which Rye are likely to continue to use for the final two home games of this term will be removed.

Rye were desperate to get as much of the work on the building done in time for last week’s ground grading inspection and Taylor is confident Rye will achieve the ‘F Grade’ required to take part in next season’s FA Cup.
