Rye boss: We need to win something

Rye United manager Scott Price has stressed the need to win something ahead of tonight’s cup final.

The Quarterboys will take on Selsey in the Sussex RUR Charity Cup decider at the Sussex FA County Ground in Lancing desperate for some silverware to show off in the new Rye United FC Clubhouse.

Rye manager Scott Price said: “The cup final’s massive. We need something this season. We’ve had a good season again, but we need to win something.”

“I still maintain we’re the best team in the league, just sometimes perhaps not mentally the best team in the league. I think we deserve to win something, but football has a tendency not to give you what you deserve.”

Selsey are 12th in Sussex County Football League Division One with exactly 40 points fewer than second-placed Rye. The league meetings between the sides ended 8-1 and 3-1 in Rye’s favour.

“It’s not going to be easy,” Price went on. “As we said the last time we played them in the league, we let them back in the game when we should’ve absolutely hammered them again and they wouldn’t have been looking forward to playing us again. But it’s a cup final and anything can happen.

“If we show the same attitude we did down there last time for the first hour, I don’t think there’s a side in the league that could probably play us. But we seem to have a knack to give teams a sniff and some teams don’t need it. The main thing is we’ve got to go out there and play.”

Kick-off is 7.30pm and a report will appear on this website first thing tomorrow.
