Rye and Bexhill set for action

Rye United and Bexhill United will be in Sussex County Football League action tonight (Tuesday).

Rye will travel to AFC Uckfield in Division One and Bexhill are away to newly-promoted Saltdean United in Division Two. Both matches will kick-off at 7.45pm.

Scott Price’s Rye side has made an unbeaten start to the season with a 1-1 draw away to Shoreham in the league opener being followed by a 1-0 victory at St Francis Rangers in the FA Cup on Sunday.

Uckfield were 4-0 winners over Selsey in their only league fixture to date, but lost 4-2 away to Lingfield in the FA Cup at the weekend. Both meetings between Rye and Uckfield last season ended in draws.

Price said: “It will be a tough one. It’s a side we seemed to struggle with last year and I do like the way they play, but I will set up to win the game.” Jack Franklin is likely to start and Price plans to revert to 4-4-2.

Bexhill will be seeking to make it two wins out of two following their 4-3 success away to Southwick on Saturday. Last season’s Division Three runners-up Saltdean began with a 1-1 draw at home to Midhurst & Easebourne.

Bexhill manager Darrol Parris said: “I’ve got to be confident, but not over-confident. They’ve come into the league so they’re going to be on a high, but as long as we work hard I’m sure we’ll be fine.”
