Rocks set to roll in to Rye

Rye United have been given an attractive tie in the county’s premier knockout football competition.

Last season’s Sussex County League Division One runners-up and FA Vase quarter-finalists will entertain Bognor Regis Town in round two of the Sussex Senior Cup.

Former Conference South club Bognor narrowly missed out on the title in Ryman League Division One South (one division above Sussex One) during the spring before losing their play-off semi-final on home soil.

Rye won away to Ryman Division One South opposition in the form of Worthing in the 2010/11 Sussex Senior Cup before bowing out in the quarter-finals against eventual runners-up Eastbourne Borough.

A date for the match against Bognor, who are nicknamed the Rocks, is yet to be set. Rye have received a bye through round one as a result of their top five finish in the league last term.

Also receiving a bye through to round two are Ryman Premier Division club Hastings United, who will entertain Lancing or fellow Sussex Division One side Hassocks.

Westfield will go to Sussex Division Two rivals Steyning Town in round one, while Bexhill United, Little Common and Sidley have all been given home draws against opposition from Sussex Division One.

Bexhill will face Worthing United and Common, like Bexhill from Division Two, will lock horns with Chichester City. Division One side Sidley will take on East Grinstead Town.
