Ref attacker kicked out of club

The Hollington United footballer who assaulted a referee on Saturday has been kicked out of his club.

Police were called following the assault during the second half of Hollington’s match against Rock-a-Nore in the ADA East Sussex League Premier Division and the game abandoned with Rocks leading 5-1.

A club statement from Hollington issued last night (Monday) read: “Following the incident on Saturday, Hollington United FC held an emergency meeting on Monday which resulted in the player concerned being dismissed from the club and the Sussex County FA being notified of this.”

The referee has submitted a misconduct report to the Sussex County FA, who will deal with the incident in co-ordination with any police action that might be taken.

The East Sussex Football League will then review the situation regarding any further sanctions that should be applied once the SCFA and police have concluded their enquiries.
