Ray signs Ray to bolster squad

Hastings United have topped up their squad ahead of a hectic end to the season with another signing.

Ray Freeman, a centre-forward or wide left player, has joined the U’s this week and is expected to be in the squad for the visit of Lowestoft Town in the Ryman Football League Premier Division on Saturday.

United player-manager Sean Ray said: “He’s strong, direct and can run with the ball. He’s left-footed, which is what we need, and he scores goals. He was at Horsham last season and I tried to sign him after we played them.”

Freeman becomes the latest of several players to join the club in the past few weeks following Ben Judge, Daniel East and Mikel Suarez, plus first team coach Hugo Langton.

A strong squad will be crucial over a hectic conclusion to the campaign with United having midweek matches lined-up for just about every week until the end of April.

Last night’s win over Peacehaven & Telscombe in the Sussex Senior Cup means the U’s will play at least 60 games this season (42 in the league, nine in the FA Cup, one in the FA Trophy, at least five in the Ryman League Cup and at least three in the Sussex Senior Cup).
