Rampant Rye put eight past Selsey

Rye United went back to the top of the Sussex County Football League courtesy of an 8-1 thrashing of Selsey.

Wes Tate struck twice to put Rye two-up after 25 minutes of a one-sided Division One fixture at The Salts on Saturday, Scott Ramsay lashed home the third and Liam Upton added a solo fourth before the break.

Luke Woodley made it 5-0 with a superb individual goal, the sixth was an own goal and Ramsay struck twice more after missing a penalty to complete his hat-trick. Selsey pulled one back with a spot-kick of their own.

Elsewhere, Sidley United’s hopes of a decent run in the FA Vase are over following a disappointing 3-2 loss at home to Chichester City in second round qualifying. Scott McDonald and Marc Munday had put them 2-1 up at half time.

Westfield notched up a very good 2-0 win away to Wick in Sussex Division Two thanks to a goal in either half from Joe Barham, while Little Common fought out a goalless draw at home to Storrington.

Bexhill United went down 4-2 away to Dorking Wanderers in a match which finished 10-a-side. All the goals came in the second half, and Bexhill scored the first and last through penalties from Casey Ham and Dan Hill. Andy Garman was sent-off late in the first half.
