Project Non-League: Hastings United say it's better than null and void

Hastings United have thrown their weight behind the national campaign to prevent a second non-league season being written off.

The Pilot Field outfit are supporting Project Non-League, which is asking the football authorities to use results from last season and this season to calculate points-per-game league tables and promote teams accordingly.

The plan would see Hastings – who were top of the Isthmian south east division when football was halted last March and again in November – moved up to the Isthmian premier.

But many in football believe the FA is unlikely to agree to the proposal, given that the 2019-20 was decalred null and void months ago.

Hastings United CEO Billy Wood said: “Our view is that if the season can still be completed, that’s great.

“But if it can’t and we’re going towards null and void again, it needs creativity from the FA and the leagues to allow movement for clubs who have deserved it, instead of punishing them and expecting them to stagnate for two years.

“It would rewards teams for success they have had over the two seasons without punishing those who have not done so well. There’d be no need for anyone to be relegated.

“It’s no coincidence the teams that were top last season are top again now.”
