Price: Nowhere near our best

Scott Price admitted his Rye United team was “nowhere near our best” despite winning the Sussex RUR Charity Cup.

Rye clinched the county competition for the second time in their history after running out 2-0 victors over Selsey in the final last night (Tuesday).

Price, their manager, said: “I suppose for me it was a typical cup final where we were nowhere near our best, but credit to Selsey, I think they probably were.

“I think first half we got completely outplayed. I thought their movement was better, they were more hungry, they kept the ball better and looked more of a threat without creating that many chances.

“I thought we did a lot better second half. We looked stronger and seemed to keep our shape better. We were still nowhere near our best, but I felt comfortable. First half I didn’t feel comfortable.

“After we got the second goal I thought it was game over and I was actually quite pleased we didn’t go on to win five or six-nil because it would’ve made a mockery of the final.

“We wouldn’t have deserved it and it was nice to know we can close the game out. We came unstuck against Pagham and Sidley of late, but it was another case of we just seem to do enough.”
