Pompey await training ground start

Pompey are still waiting to move into their new training ground home.

It has been almost two weeks since leaving long-term base Eastleigh.

Eastney Barracks, nowadays called the Cockleshell Community Sports Club, has been the venue selected.

However, Guy Whittingham’s men have yet to train there.

The problem is out of the caretaker boss’ hands as those above him seek to finalise terms of the deal.

In the meantime, the team have trained on the 4G surface at South Downs College.

During that period, Pompey have also had midweek away games at Scunthorpe and Hartlepool, so have trained on their travels anyway. However, they are scheduled to be back training in the city on Thursday.

And Whittingham admitted he was unsure whether they would have the green light to move to their chosen venue of Eastney.

He said: ‘You will have to ask other people about that training, we have not moved there yet.

‘It’s also a combination of being on the road.

‘The last two weeks we have had Scunthorpe away and Hartlepool away.

‘Yesterday it took all-day to travel up there before a recovery session. Today will be a light session.

‘Hopefully things will be sorted on Thursday but who knows?’
