Pirates push Haven all the way

Bexhill United pushed higher grade Peacehaven & Telscombe all the way in a John O’Hara League Cup quarter-final last night (Wednesday).

Sussex County Football League Division Two outfit Bexhill produced a valiant effort before eventually going down 3-2 after extra-time away to Division One title hopefuls Peacehaven.

Martin Denny put Bexhill ahead during the first half on a freezing night by applying the finish to a good move involving Steve Morris, Aaron Parris and Casey Ham.

Bexhill manager Darrol Parris felt that two decisions going against his team in the space of a minute were largely responsible for Peacehaven’s equaliser.

The hosts then went 2-1 up, but Bexhill refused to lie down and Will Dunstall headed over the goalkeeper for his second goal in successive games.

With the scores level after 90 minutes, the tie went into extra-time and Peacehaven grabbed the winner through a shot from outside the box which went in off the post.

Bexhill: Rogers, L. Parsons, Tudor, Morris (Aston), Elliott-Noye, Morton, Masters (Dunstall), Garman (Bristow), Parris, Ham, Denny. Sub not used: Rand.
