The Westies simply weren’t at the races as they slumped 4-1 away to Upper Beeding in their latest Macron Store Southern Combination Football League Division Two fixture.

On a wet and windy afternoon, Upper Beeding went ahead on 20 minutes. James Rowland unleashed a rasping drive that flicked off Sam Winter on its way into the top corner.

The goal sprung Westfield into life, with Matt Dadswell hitting the upright and then going extremely close with a spectacular volley from the edge of the box.

On 50 minutes Beeding made it 2-0. A miskicked ball back to Westfield goalkeeper Joe Cullip landed at the feet of James Bacon, who coolly chipped it in from 25 yards. Four minutes later it was 3-0. Sam Gunn was unmarked at a corner and bulleted a header past Cullip.

A trio of changes freshened Westfield up, but not before Ben Whales had made it 4-0 with a tap in following a neat bit of play down the right-hand side.

Westfield nabbed a consolation from the penalty spot. Chris Borkloe was brought down by the home goalkeeper and Adebola Sotoyinbo slotted the spot-kick down the middle.

The visitors felt they should have had another penalty moments later before Matt Dadswell picked up two bookings in a minute for dissent and Roberto Martellini was shown his second yellow card for a tackle.

Westfield will be back on home soil tomorrow (Saturday) against Rustington. Kick-off at The Parish Field is 2pm.
