Munday frustration at dull derby

The Pirates lost 2-0 in a Parafix Sussex Senior Challenge Cup second round derby on Tuesday night and a club official had to dash off to fetch some more shirts because several were bloodied following Garman’s first half head injury.

Munday said: “I thought it was going to be a proper ding-dong because of the weather, but the most exciting bit was putting the headband on Andy Garman in the changing room.

“It was a poor game and for a derby there was just nothing about it. There weren’t even any tackles and it’s really disappointing to be a part of when it’s like that.”

Munday said Bexhill lost their way after Scott McDonald missed a first half penalty when the game was still goalless and that Common deserved to come out on top.

“Missing a penalty just seemed to completely change the dynamics of it,” he continued. “To be honest probably first half-hour up until we missed the penalty we were the best of a poor game.

“For the next 60 minutes they had the better of it and they deserved to beat us because they had the better of the game for a longer amount of time.

“Our heads went down from the minute we missed the penalty. It felt to me like the lads turned round and thought ‘it’s not going to be our night’.

“Sometimes you’ve got to do a bit more, especially for the people that came through the door to watch. I expect people to put a bit more in than that; you should want to give it a go.”

Munday will be expecting an improvement when fourth-placed Bexhill - who are level on points with second-placed Wick & Barnham United - face third-bottom Storrington in their first Macron Store Sussex County Football League Division Two away game for two months this coming Saturday.
