Mixed fortunes for local clubs

There was a mixed bag of results for the area’s Sussex County Football League clubs last night (Tuesday).

Rye United put the disappointment of their weekend league defeat behind them with a 6-2 win at Ringmer in round two of the Sussex RUR Charity Cup.

Wes Tate scored four of the goals, while Sam Adams and Matt Maclean were also on target for a Rye side which effectively had the game won by half time having opened up a 4-0 lead.

Sussex Division Two side Bexhill United ended a run of four consecutive defeats by winning 3-1 at home to Division One outfit St Francis Rangers in the same competition. Paul Henty bagged a brace and Dan Hill netted the other.

But the good news ended there because, also in the RUR Charity Cup, Division One team Sidley United lost 2-0 away to Southwick, from Division Two.

And Westfield, who had won their previous four games in all competitions, were hammered 7-0 away to new Division Two leaders Hailsham Town in the league with former Rye striker Danny Leach scoring five.

Full reports on each of these matches will appear in Friday’s Observers. Little Common are in action tonight (Wednesday) with a trip to Seaford Town in Division Two.
