Loxwood will 'never give up' in survival quest

Interim manager Mark Courtney insists bottom-of-the-table Loxwood will ‘keep going’ and ‘never give up’ in their quest for Premier Division survival.

Loxwood have endured a difficult campaign. The Magpies parted company with former manager Alex Walsh after an astonishing 20-game winless run in the league.

Courtney took over on an interim basis and helped Loxwood record their first league victory of the season – at the 23rd time of asking – in a 3-0 home win over relegation rivals Hassocks on February 8.

The Magpies are 11 points adrift of place-above Hassocks, having played a game more, going in to their trip to promotion-chasing Horley Town this Saturday.

Courtney said: “I still think we can do it. I’m one of those that think, until mathematically, we cannot stay up, we’ve got a chance.

“We’ve had three bad games as far as I’m concerned. I’m going to keep fighting and the players are going to keep fighting.

“Hopefully we can get some points here and there. We’ll keep going and we’ll never give up.

“Even when it’s over, we’re still not going to give up.

“We’re still going to try to get more victories, still pick up some more points and have a good go trying.”

Saturday’s opponents Horley sit fifth in the Premier Division and are just three points off second-placed Newhaven and an automatic promotion place.

On Loxwood’s trip to face the Clarets, Courtney added: “I don’t know too much about them. I’m not one of those managers that goes looking.

“We’ve just got to go about our business, work hard, give them a run for their money and see if we can get something for the result.”
