Rye United Football Club says its floodlight problems have been fixed and tonight’s (Thursday’s) game will go ahead.
The Quarterboys will host Hailsham Town in Sussex County Football League Division One tonight just two days after the visit from Newhaven was abandoned because of a floodlight failure.
Rye chairman Clive Taylor said: “An electrician was down there this morning putting a new breaker in the fuse box so we should be able to light up Blackpool Illuminations now!”
No club in the division has played fewer league matches than Rye and Hailsham, who both still have 16 Division One fixtures remaining. Rye also have a Sussex RUR Charity Cup quarter-final away to Horsham YMCA next Tuesday night.
Rye are fifth-from-bottom of the standings having failed to win since the 5-4 victory at home to St Francis Rangers on January 11, although they were 1-0 up against Newhaven despite being down to 10 men when play was halted midway through the second half.
Second-from-bottom Hailsham are seven points worse off than Rye, but have won four of their last five outings. Rye were 4-2 winners in the reverse fixture on Bank Holiday Monday at the end of August. Kick-off at The Salts tonight is 7.45pm.
