Hastings United Football Club’s scheduled match away to Hythe Town tonight (Tuesday) has been postponed.
The Ryman Football League Division One South fixture has unsurprisingly been called-off due to a waterlogged pitch following an inspection this morning.
It means that what promised to be a fascinating contest between two sides hoping to mount a challenge for play-off spots from their present mid-table positions will be played at a later date.
United already have Tuesday night matches scheduled for the next five weeks and the earliest midweek date they have available isn’t until the second half of February.
It’s the second successive Tuesday that a United game has succumbed to the weather and they remain at the midway point in their league programme having played between four and seven fewer matches than every other club in the division.
Their next two matches, incidentally, are both at home - against Dorking Wanderers on Saturday and East Grinstead Town next Tuesday night.
Little Common are due to visit Arundel in round three of the Parafix Sussex Senior Challenge Cup tonight, although prospects of play are surely minimal in light of all the recent rain.
