The Lions went 1-0 down after only two minutes when a long ball over the top bypassed Hollington’s centre backs, the home team’s striker was able to tap it past the keeper.

Hollington were awarded a penalty shortly after this after Lindfield’s goalkeeper fouled inside the box.

Anthony Storey stepped up to take it and he placed it past the keeper to bring Hollington back on level terms. Both teams had good chances to take the lead but neither could get the all important goal.

Two minutes into the second half Sporting Lindfield restored their lead after their striker went 1v1 against the keeper and slotted it into the bottom corner.

After this, Hollington looked more threatening and in the 54th minute a sweet ball was looped in and Matt McLean nodded it home from the centre of the box.

This gave Hollington the confidence boost that they needed and in the 62nd minute they took the lead.

The ball was played in from a freekick and Wes Tate was in the right place at the right time to tap it past the keeper. In the latter stages, the game became quite scrappy with Lindfield desperately trying to draw level. Hollngton did well to see the game out and get a deserved three points.

Scott Price had this to say: "After last week's outstanding performance with the ball on a 3g pitch, we knew today was going to be a completely different situation.

"This result was right up there, after twice going behind to a team that held Sidley with 10 men for over an hour.

"And with Lewis McGuigan, Ricky Martin, Jamie Crone, Dom Clarke, Elliot Stokes, Ben Radley, Sean Ray, and Danny Andrews all missing it was time to dig deep and they did. I couldn’t have asked any more of my players.

"It was like a war zone out there at times with the referee seeming to let a lot go. But credit to both sides who both kept, if hard, but also fair which made for a fantastic game."
