Hollington United on top in closely-contested season opener

Hollington came out on top in a closely contested game against Cuckfield in their first league game of the season.

Within the first ten minutes Hollington defender Ben Radley was forced off the pitch due to an injury, replacing him was Jordan Harley who, with his first touch of the ball, looped in a cross that met Dom Clarke's head.

The striker nodded it down past the goalkeeper. Neither side created many chances in the first half but Hollington looked more threatening and were on top at half time.

The second half was a completely different story. In the latter stages the game became quite physical with both teams desperately trying to secure the three points.

Cuckfield were awarded a penalty in the 71st minute after Hollington defender Absolom Wawane nudged Cuckfield's striker inside the box, he made no mistake from the spot.

This didn't affect Hollington at all and in the last minutes of the game Alex Jegorovs was tripped inside the box .

Danny Andrews stepped up to take the penalty, the captain smashed it into the net. A well deserved three points for the Hollington Utd Lions.
